Looking for information on games and gamers in the Xbox Live ecosystem? You've come to the right place. My pet project is 10 years old and is an unofficial source of information regarding Xbox Live games on various devices.

Start from here. Select German language in a list. Look at the list of countries speaking German and select Austria for example. Look at the genres popularity and devices using. Watch the games they are playing right now. Select any game and see the gamertags of players. Click profile icon. If you are lucky, you could see the social networks also, like twitch or discord. Click gamertag link. You can see if player really plays this game right now. You can friend or message him.

Have you set Location and Bio in your Xbox profile? Unlikely, because there is little point in them. There is no search for these fields, and this information is not so visible. But now it is possible to search not only by gamertags, but also by location and biography. Also, if you are looking for someone who played a rare game, my tool may help you (or may not). In any case, clicking on a gamertag will open the profile, and you can friend or write a message.

How does it work

Every ~15 minutes my scripts scan the state ( Presence ) of ~37M players. Presence shows which game is currently running and on which device. I store this information in the Postgres Pro Enterprise DBMS.

A separate pool of scripts attempts to get a list of clips and screenshots, from which I determine the country and language. Another scripts are determining the Gamertag. And another set of scripts continuously expands the list of gamers by brute-forcing the id.

I do not scan presence of players for whom it was not possible to determine the language/country.

The entire system consists of two dedicated servers that receive the necessary information from 50+ artificial accounts. The main problem is not to cause problems for the Xbox Live servers, for which I observe Fine-Grained Rate Limiting.

Let me summarize a bit

It would seem to someone that my sample is crap because only few percents of gamers are in. But — tens of millions of players who passed through all these filters do not allow me to say that, and give a very truthful picture of what is happening on game stage.
